Three of the car manufacturing companies that have a history of offering impressive sports cars over the years are Pontiac, Saturn, and Porsche. All of these car makers provide solid sports car features, particularly in regards to their Pontiac engine, Saturn engine, and Porsche engine. The three brands of sports cars are compared in the following paragraphs.

Saturn proved to be one of the General Motors brands that was discontinued in 2009 as the company was reorganized. The Saturn engine in its sports cars demonstrated impressive abilities until the end. In 2009 Saturn Sky sports cars, the inline four version of the Saturn engine put out a solid 173 hp, while the upgraded V8 Saturn engine produced a more competitive 260 hp. The brand was renowned for its sharp styling, high performance Saturn engine in the red line model, comfortable ride on the highway, and low pricing relative to its various sports car competitors. Though the car had a devoted following up until the end with its powerful Saturn engine and sleek styling, General Motors shelved half of its brands, and the Saturn Sky went the way of the entire Saturn line up.

Pontiac was a General Motors brand that had suffered a decline in popularity throughout the 1990′s. The Pontiac engine actually found use in a variety of different GM brands over the years, as a Pontiac engine typically provided high performance. Pontiac sports car models like the 1980′s Pontiac Fiero and 1990′s Pontiac Sunfire, as well as the more impressive and current 2000′s models Pontiac G8, helped to keep the brand going until it was finally shut down by GM in 2009. The promising sports car only lasted for two years as a result of being launched in 2008. The Pontiac engine in the G8 provided a potent 361 hp, making it as powerful as most any competing sports car on the market. The G8 GXP model Pontiac engine bumped the performance up to Pontiac’s ultimate achievement in putting out 415 hp. Last year, in 2009, the final Pontiac sports cars were produced.

Porsche sports cars possess a practically unblemished reputation as among the greatest performing vehicle on the planet. They have earned this high level reputation over many years. The Porsche engine boasts of an impressive power output, while the vehicles offer pin point handling. A Porsche engine and car provides a driving experience that is unparalleled. It should come as no surprise that many individuals consider the Porsche marque to represent the entire sports car genre. Naturally, these sports cars come with a high price tag as well. Although only aerodynamic sports cars were offered by the firm for many decades, recently they have enlarged their offering to cover different kinds of vehicles.

To understand what the Porsche engine is capable of, several of the 2011 models driving specs are considered. The Porsche engine in the Boxter provides an impressive 255 hp. The Boxter S attains 310 hp. A Porsche engine in the Cayman manages 265 hp, while its Cayman S model delivers 320 hp. Finally, the Porsche engine found in the 911 Carrera delivers an amazing 345 hp, going from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.7 seconds.

			    About the Author

In the end, of the three makes of beloved sports cars, only Porsche has survived the economic turmoil of the last few years. Although the Pontiac engine and the Saturn engine powered hot, fancy sports cars, they will only live on as collectibles. The Porsche sports car now exists almost without competitors.

Why do so many of us find sports cars irresistible? Few objects inspire the emotional attachment that sports cars do among auto enthusiasts. There are always dedicated fans of almost every technology, but sports car fans band together in clubs, spend a significant percentage of their free time preoccupied with their car, and may even begin to create a self-definition that seems to be centered upon their favorite auto.

There is something about sports cars that makes them uniquely attractive to many drivers.

Of course, it would be impossible to isolate exactly what it is about a well-designed sports car that engenders such attachment, but there are some factors that would logically contribute to the commonly seen love affair between men and their sports cars.

Initially, it seems as if much of the attraction is grounded in symbolism. Sports cars have long been portrayed as sources of freedom. Drivers are left unencumbered by the limitations of other automobiles are seen as having a uniquely free and flexible life on the open road. This notion of freedom is intensified when one considers convertible sports car offerings. In such circumstances the driver is not boxed in like others. He can tackle any road while being completely open to the elements.

Additionally, the allure of sports cars lies in their innovative technology. We live in a world that worships at the altar of technological advances. The sports car is a moving amalgamation of technical expertise. Sports cars are a bundling of technological miracles. From aerodynamic styling to compact yet powerful engines, they represent the cutting edge of technological design. In a society entranced by technology and innovation, the sports car has an iconic appeal that is difficult to equal.

Sports cars also represent the flipside to our technological obsession. Although we, as a society, crave more and better tech we also fear these developments will diminish our humanity. Some have even argued we have an underlying fear of losing control over our own advances. The sports car simultaneously represents our technological prowess while reassuring us we retain dominion over our creation. Sports cars are built to respond the driver. In fact, they are sold as being the most responsive cars available. The driver is left in ultimate control. Man creates the new technology and harnesses it. It is the perfect version of our technological dream in action.

Finally, the sports car appeals to man’s desire to reassert his strength in a world that no longer requires physical prowess. Humanity has grown softer and the need for violent power to function successfully has been reduced to near zero. The sports car provides an alternative means of expressing whatever hard-wired tendencies toward strength and prowess that may be lurking in the deep recesses of the human mind. The sports car is an embodiment, after all, of the human physical traits once needed for survival in leaner times. Speed and power are combined and become a proxy body for the driver placed behind the wheel.

The sports car, it would seem, is a perfect object of affection. It allows us to explore our concept of freedom. It shows us our continual technological advancement while simultaneously reassuring us that we can keep our new technologies under our control. Meanwhile, the sports car acts a proxy body for us to express a seemingly instinctive need for demonstrating physical prowess.

Sports cars in general, are mostly about style and performance. This is why these types of cars lure so many drivers in the market. Sports cars are head turners and usually look best in the color red.

Sports cars have power placed to its pavement across its rear wheels or on all of the four wheels. The cars are principally constructed for the driver, although there are a few have rear seats.

The lure of sports cars demonstrate, as surveys show, that nearly sixty percent of young car drivers between the ages of seventeen and twenty, select a car based on appearance with little consideration on its affordability. Only seven percent base their selection on the cost of insurance cost and/or running condition and thirty percent base their selection solely on appearance.

While views greatly vary with regards to the sports car precise definition, the majority of sports cars come with two doors, two seats and are designed for tremendous acceleration, high speed, and of course, attractiveness.

Their attractive looks are that lure car drivers and enthusiasts, second only to the performance, surveys said.Sports cars do not have much room capacity or may not be reasonable or economical. Passenger space and fuel cost-effectiveness are not generally the main considerations of an individual who is in the showroom ready to purchase an image-boosting vehicle.

The lure of a sports car is really all about impact and style; most say that sports cars are vehicles that after parking it and when walking away, there is that compelling force that makes one turn back for another look at that handsome car.

While many sports cars fans were lured by its appearance, there are others attracted to its performance. When a sports car entails superior road handling, performance and implementation compared to the standard passenger vehicle the sports cars have a more firm and tight- tuned suspension and efficient “steering system,” improved aerodynamics, a transmission that is “out to perform”, high-execution tires and a superior weight to power ratio.

These are the reasons why the sports car simply is a fun vehicle to drive and why it lures so many drivers. A fabulous car such as a Range Rover or a Lexus may also be satisfying, a true sports car will give its driver immeasurable feeling of contentment that will place a lasting and satisfied smile on any drivers face.

Pre-owned products can often make best buys. They are available at cheap prices and therefore they can save you money. Take the case of pre-owned sport cars. People are excited about owning a sports car not only for its performance but also for the sheer enjoyable experience in owning one. However, to buy a brand new sports car may not be possible for many people, because it is too expensive. For those people, pre-owned sports cars are the best alternative to fulfill their dreams of owning a sports car.

If you take some extra care, you can end up buying a pre-owned car, which will give you excellent performance. Let us see some of the precaution you may consider while selecting a pre-owned car.

1. Always think that you are buying a used sports car and not a new one. This will help you to set a realistic idea of what you are going to get out of the deal. In most case, you will save a lot of money in the bargain, while you can experience the enjoyment only a sports car can give. Knowing your needs and preferences is also a must in buying pre-owned sports cars.2. Although, you are going to buy a pre-owned sports car, it is likely that your deal will turn too expensive, if you did not do your home work correctly. This means that you need to set a budget and also do some research on pre owned cars, different models, features and price range online or otherwise before actually buying a pre owned sports car.

3. One of the mistakes often committed by prospective buyers is that they don’t inspect the car thoroughly due to their over enthusiasm. Most probably fall on the first sight of the car and set their mind on buying it. This is not proper. One has to inspect the car thoroughly, particularly, the interior, the body, the engine, and the papers.

Always keep in mind that a well-maintained sports car is worth buying. Open the hood and inspect the car’s engine. Even if you do not know too much about car electronics, the inspection will give you a general feel of how the car has been maintained by the seller. You may check the inside of the tailpipe. A greasy tail pipe indicates that there is a problem with the engine compression.

The areas you can inspect include the body to see scratches or dents. Another very important thing is the document. That will confirm the ownership of the car.

4. You can also go for a test drive before the purchase. You will appreciate that this applies to new cars as well which will enable you to have a proper assessment of the over-all handling and performance of the car.

So, when you are forced by budgetary constrains, buying a pre-owned one can be the best choice in purchasing a sports car, which will give you the same excitement and fun that brand new ones can give.

Your sports car represents a significant investment. For many owners, their sports car ranks second only to their home in terms of cost. When one has paid a substantial sum for an item, it only makes sense to take proactive steps to insure its protection.

There are many ways one can protect their sports car. A car can be protected against theft with expensive alarm systems and accessories such as locking lug nuts or a club-like steering wheel lock.

A sports car can be protected from environmental damage via the use of a car cover, parking in a garage, regular weather-related maintenance, and other activities.

There is a burgeoning industry surrounding sports car enthusiasts. There are literally hundreds of ways to protect every component of your automobile, and aspiring entrepreneurs will continue to find new must-have products to defend your investment.

However, the sports car hobbyist does have means of protecting their car that do not require any financial outlays. By utilizing common sense and care, you can take many measures to protect your sports car without spending a dime. Here are three examples:

Parking

You can avoid door dings and other similar body-related problems simply by parking wisely and carefully. Remind yourself of your investment and seek out parking spaces that give you a wide enough berth. Don’t try to crowd into a space next to another car–doing so will almost guarantee a paint scratch or chip when the driver in the next slot opens his or her door.

Don’t park under trees. Trees house birds and produce sap and falling pieces. All of these can damage your sports car’s paint or finish. Simply refuse to park under a branch. You may have to seek out a spot a little farther from your destination, but you can make the walk while feeling better about yourself and your sports car’s well being.

Driving

There is a tendency to think of sports car driving as a high-speed and reckless endeavor. This is not, of course, the case. Although aficionados may seek out opportunities to test their vehicles speed and acceleration, they do not do so recklessly and are, in fact, among the safest drivers on the road.

This commitment to safety and care needs to be carried into regular traffic situations as well. Any sports car owner should remember that the best way to protect their car while driving it is to remain accident-free. Even stalwart drivers can benefit from re-reading defensive driving guidelines and making a concerted effort to drive as safely as possible.

Maintaining

Many sports cars are damaged while actually being repaired. Although it may seem counterintuitive, the garage is a primary source of scratches, dings and chips for many sports cars. Those performing maintenance on their vehicle must handle tools carefully and pay close attention to how they are working on their car. For instance, tools should never be placed directly on the car.

Additionally, repair situations create the possibility of damaging the mechanical components for your sports car. Make sure that before you embark on any repair work that you understand exactly what is required and expected. Otherwise, you may unintentionally damage your sports car.

These may seem like common sense actions. Truth be told, they are. Common sense, however, is easily lost in many situations. Sports car ownership presents many options and considerations in terms of protecting your car, and the most simple and important means of protecting your car can get lost in the shuffle unless you are willing to make a strong commitment to parking, driving, and maintaining your vehicle with great care.

Sports cars are important and expensive investments and drivers often develop a deep appreciation for their car. As such, they seek to maintain their cars well and prolong their useful life as long as possible.

There are many things one can to do extend their sports car’s life. Some involve great expense and technical expertise. Others are as simple as placing a drop cloth or car cover over a garaged vehicle. All activities of this sort, however, can be placed in one of three general categories. These are the three ways by which one can extend the life of a sports car:

Exterior Maintenance

Of course, the guts and inner workings of any sports car are the driving force behind its performance. Engines, suspensions and transmissions are have a far greater impact on sports car performance than does appearance. Although aerodynamic sports cars may receive some performance boost from their design, exterior aspects are primarily aesthetic matter not directly tied to the quality of a drive.

However, neglect of a sports car’s external shell can destroy the vehicle’s attraction and render it nearly as useless as a car with a blown motor. Exterior rust and decay is more likely to destroy the visual impact of the car than to have a real impact on its drivability, but maintenance for the car’s body can keep the car fresh, pleasing and more fun to drive.

Regular attention must be paid to the exterior. This includes regular washings with appropriate detergents and careful application of was or other protectants. Small scratches and or chips should be repaired immediately. These seemingly insignificant blemishes provide an opportunity for oxidation and subsequent visible rust.

The car should be protected from the elements when possible. There is no reason to leave a sports car in the sun, unprotected. The sun’s rays will fade paint and can cause rubber and plastic moldings to crack or wear unevenly. One should also strive to store their sports car appropriately and to protect it from sun and inclement weather.

Regular Maintenance

If a car has a significant mechanical problem it must, of course, be carefully and correctly rectified before the automobile is used. Repairs are obvious and no sports car owner can look past them.

Regular maintenance, however, is just as important to a sports car and is often overlooked. Regular oil-changes, tune-ups, hose and belt replacement and other maintenance chores must be conducted in order to effectively protect the vehicle against excessive wear and tear. One cannot stop time, but they can slow its impact through quality maintenance.

Often, one may take the attitude of those who say “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” This seemingly common-sense approach however may keep sports car owners from thinking proactively about maintaining their car. When you spot older model sports cars that still look great and run as beautifully as the day they rolled off the assembly line it is usually because they are owned by sports car buffs who take maintenance seriously.

Appropriate Driving

Sports cars are strong machines, but are finely tuned instruments at the same time. They respond to use in unique ways, yet can still be victimized by poor driving habits just like any other car.

It is incumbent upon a sports car driver to be a good overall driver and not to force the automobile beyond its limitations or to use it incorrectly. Many major automotive problems stem not from mechanical deficiencies, but instead from poor driving.

One would not give a child a Stradivarius with which to take introductory fiddle classes. Likewise, one should not embark on using a high-performance sports car until they are prepared to drive it optimally and with great skill.

Sometimes the most basic themes hold the keys to success. That is certainly the case with sports car preservation. There are many details that need to be managed, but following the basic principles of conducting correct maintenance and driving appropriately will extend the life of your sports car more effectively than any single product or quick fix.

Claiming any one new sports car is the most affordable is a great way to start an endless debate. Even if the list price of a particular sports car is less than its competitors, a forthcoming model is likely to sneak in at a few dollars less. Meanwhile, limiting discussion to current models overlooks the truly most affordable sports cars–used models.

Used sports cars can be bargains, particularly older models from less glamorous manufacturers. Fiat sports cars from the 1970s, for instance, can often be found in running condition for under a few thousand dollars. Any sports club car membership will undoubtedly boast scores of stories detailing great bargains found from individual owners on classic sports cars that are more coveted by collectors, too.

If you are looking for a truly affordable sports car and are not intimidated by the prospect of the necessary maintenance issues inherent in older models, you should certainly seek out a used sports car.

There are a variety of ways to find affordable sports cars. The traditional method of looking through your local classified newspaper advertisements on a regular basis can still yield amazing values. Sellers are motivated to part with their sports cars for a variety of reasons and sometimes their needs can be immediate. This will encourage them to sell the car at prices sometimes well beneath market value. Bargain hunting via classified advertisements is a great way to stumble upon a real bargain sports car.

Mechanics can be a great source of bargain cars, too. Often, customers will leave a sports car for work at an auto shop. Once repairs are completed, they will be unable to afford the repair bill and may be forced to default the car to the shop. Mechanics acquire liens on the vehicles and are able to offer them for sale. Mechanics are experts in repairing vehicles and are primarily interested in maintaining cars–not in selling them. A mechanic holding an abandoned vehicle still lacks payment for the work performed, too. As such, these cars can often be purchased at bargain rates. As an additional benefit, buying from a mechanic may indicate the car has had any known problems already repaired. At the very least, you will have a great source of information about the car’s mechanical status–a benefit frequently missing from other bargain sources.

Internet auctions also provide an outlet for sports car bargain-hunters. The auction market is always tricky–sometimes a car may actually sell for far more than one would think it was actually worth. In other cases, there may be a window of opportunity to snag a used sports car at an amazing price. Poorly timed auctions or auctions that do not feature a highly sought after made or model of car can result in very low prices.

Of course the bargain shopper needs to enter the market well informed. Many seemingly great deals can really be busts for a buyer if they are not sufficiently educated. However, affordable sports cars are out there on the market–one need only find them.

Classified advertisements, repair shops and internet auctions are all great opportunities to find a sports car at a bargain price. One need not resign themselves to the prospect of paying top dollar for a sports car. By choosing less popular models, or simply by hunting out great deals, a prospective buyer can save literally thousands of dollars on their sports car purchase.

Purchasing a sports car is very exciting. However, buying a used sports car does not always include the same warranties of a new car and past damage could also be a concern with a used sports car. Despite these concerns it is possible to find an outstanding used sports car, many of which have great charm, for a fraction of the price of a new car.

There is something special about buying an older model sports car. Many older sports cars are even collectibles and their classic style holds great value. Sports car enthusiasts recognize quality and seek to preserve it.

There is never a guarantee you are going to purchase a winner as opposed to a lemon, there are many things you can do to increase your chances of success. The two most important things you can do is research and investigation. Do your homework first, look into the type of sports car you would like to purchase first. Then, when looking at used cars make sure to really investigate the car before making an offer.

Start your conquest by researching the car of your choice. The first place you should look is Kelly Blue Book to determine the estimated value of the sports car you want to buy. Then ask around about the car, maybe a local mechanic, or a friend with sports car knowledge. The internet is an outstanding resource as well. What kind of problems does the car experience? Find out what you need to look for when inspecting the car for yourself and what kinds of questions you need to ask the salesman and a mechanic. It is also important to look at numerous resources to determine an appropriate price the make and model of the car you are researching.

Developing a notebook with questions and notes is a handy tool. This way you can bring your notebook when looking at used cars. You will know what questions to ask about the car and appear organized to the seller.

The next step is investigating the real live car. You have a good idea of what to expect and what to look for when looking at used sports cars, now it is time to put your research to work.

When initially checking out the car, ask the current owner if they have all of the service records. You should also ask if they are willing to supply a vehicle history report. If not that’s ok, it is a minimal cost to pay for long term assurance of a quality vehicle. You want to closely inspect the entire car yourself and ask any questions that might come to mind.

Now is the time to take a close look at the car itself. First check the condition of the car, inside and out. Look for problem areas that you wrote down in your research. If you are not a car expert, have the car checked by a trusted mechanic. Often they will give it a once over for free or minimal charge. This could save you a lot in the long run. Note areas that need fixing and about how much it is going to cost you. Consider this when looking at the price tag of the car.

Take the car for a test drive. Look for any issues with the transmission. Are there any other things you should be looking for indicated by earlier research? Beware of sellers that do not let you take the car for a test drive or to a mechanic for a check up, they are probably trying to hide something.

Finally, if you are happy with your inspection and all other reports show that the car is in good condition, it is time to make an offer. Consider any problems noted on the car and what needs to be repaired when making an offer on the sports car.

Once you decide on a fair price and the paper work is signed, it is your turn to drive off as a happy buyer, because you did the necessary research and investigation for a fun yet safe and reliable sports car of your dreams!
